introduction
I prefer the traditional side of boat building and, as mentioned earlier, I have been involved with Salcombe yawls and sailed them since I was a boy so when I discovered the Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis offered an intensive training course in traditional boat building I immediately enrolled on the course
The course allows students to build a variety of boats under 14 foot which are completed in six months during the second half of the course and I begged the course leader for the opportunity to build my own yawl which is 16 foot long and very complex. This was only agreed to because Salcombe Yawl builder Justin Adkin is a fulltime instructor at the academy and was able to assist me at each stage of the build. Prior to becoming an instructor his boatyard was Rowsel & Adkin where he built 8 boats which compete at the top of the fleet.
Now, having completed the course, I have a workshop next to my home between Dartmouth and Salcombe and I specialise in yawl repairs, restorations and new builds.
I hope my introduction has been of some interest to you.
Should you wish to discuss any projects you might have whether clinker, carvel, rowing boat, launces etc... then please feel free to contact me by email, phone or good old fashioned mail.
I look forward to hearing from you all.
Cheers
Rob.
